As the first entry into our new recurring series, Canada Cult, Cinéma Moderne unearths a radical and rather obscure genre project: Thanatomorphose by Montreal filmmaker Éric Falardeau. While this groundbreaking film has played worldwide in various specialized festivals, it has never had a proper release in Quebec. A PhD candidate in communication studies and author of the book Une histoire des effets spéciaux au Québec published in 2017, Falardeau delivers his only feature film: a singular body horror, a visceral film in which a young woman struggling with her career and frustrated by her romantic relationship, starts to decompose while still alive. A unique and singular vision within the Quebec cinematic canon. *WARNING: This films is not appropriate for all audiences and contains disturbing imagery
