New monthly event at Cinéma Moderne: the Queer Cinema Club of Montreal (or QCCMTL for short): a vibrant celebration of queer stories and voices in cinema to create a space where all are welcomed and celebrated. For each edition, a new and exclusive poster will be created.
Choosing “Paris is Burning” for QCCMTL is a poignant and obvious decision. It is a profound journey into the vibrant and complex world of New York City’s ballroom culture of the late 1980s, and it operates as a vital historical document, shedding light on the intersectionality of race, gender, and class within the LGBTQ+ community while celebrating the creativity and survival strategies of its members. Its relevance persists, offering contemporary audiences an opportunity for reflection, understanding, and appreciation of the diverse experiences within queer culture.
