June 17 screening with filmmaker Hubert Caron-Guay in attendance
Mathieu, 19, leads a solitary life divided between his work at the slaughterhouse and superficial relationships. His daily routine is upended when his older sister Heidi, who left for the United States three years earlier, asks him to come pick her up. This journey reopens the wounds of a family past marked by absence and resentment, putting their reunion to the test. The Mechanics of Borders is a road movie that examines the remnants of a fractured childhood and the quest to rebuild broken sibling bonds.
