The Pregnant Tree and the Goblin (2019, South Korea) was made by new talents KIM Dongryung and PARK Kyoungtae. This independent, fantastical docu-fiction film is featured in KFFC’s “Side by Side” category. When plans to demolish the American base in Uijungbu, Korea surface, Park Insun, a long-time resident of the neighboring shanty town and former “comfort woman,” experiences distress after she learns of a former colleague’s passing. This fictional film combines elements of fantasy and historical reality in its reckoning with the afterlives of US military occupation and sexual trauma, empowering Insun to take control of her own fate.

The Pregnant Tree and the Goblin (2019, South Korea) will be presented as a part of “Side by Side” category that aims to highlight Asian and North American artists, including Canadians, to explore converging (and diverging) aesthetics, narratives, and shared experiences.

Tickets are available at the price of $14 for the general public and $10 for students and seniors (with the presentation of an ID).
