Les nouveaux alchimistes
Spain, 2027. In the heart of the Andalusian countryside, a geologist on an internship at a paleontological museum takes in a strangely injured shepherd. She sets off to explore the villages that are the remains of civilizations that have now disappeared. Mysterious events are worrying the inhabitants of these isolated communities and a rare stone – a meteorite maybe? – has been discovered nearby. Jaime Puertas Castillo’s lyrical, contemplative debut feature is an archaeofuturist fable about the end – or transmutation – of the agro-pastoral world. His poetic approach moves away from rural ethnography to dialogue with the past, present and future, while allowing legends to flourish. From the mythology of the land to the silver screen.
