La peli del algoritmo (North American premiere)

During the COVID-19 lockdown in Spain, Claudia’s film classes take place online. Through the Zoom platform, Claudia attends class with Fede every day. Her gaze often falls on Fede’s thumbnail, as she tries to meet his eyes, read his expressions, and observe his actions in search of a sign confirming that what she feels, Fede feels too.

Random Access Memory

If you ask an algorithm for a film based on your web browsing history, you get Random Access Memory (RAM), or a succession of images from our time, drawn from the web “memory” captured on a smartphone. With a daring approach, this 100% raw film advances an intriguing way of questioning the value and life of images in a digitized society.

Under the Sky of Fetishes (Canadian premiere)

In Mauritius, Sega, a long-silenced political dance originally created by slaves, is now “recognized” by the country’s tourism industry. In this gesture of film and performance, visual anthropologist Caroline Déodat combines archives, dance and film footage to (re)construct this history, muzzled and invisibilized by colonial and postcolonial dynamics by making it as visible and material as possible. A film of ethnographic experimentation that questions the colonial gaze and its hold, where image, movement and body become one.

Directed by Caroline Déodat
