Special screening in partnership with DOC Québec, with filmmaker Ève Lamont in attendance
If you’re in Montreal, it’s impossible not to see it. After making its way through a number of neighbourhoods, gentrification finally reached Pointe-Saint-Charles, along the Lachine Canal. Pressed forward by developers, luxury condo towers are springing up in the traditionally working-class neighbourhood in the southwestern part of the city. For long-time residents who call it simply “The Point,” it’s a disaster. Facing the threat of being pushed out, some have organized to promote a different vision of urban development centred around community projects like the preservation of an old CN workshop for a combination urban agriculture project and cultural centre. Ève Lamont filmed them for more than 10 years, following them closely in a stimulating activist film.
