Joseph finds Marie Madeleine lying in the street, barely conscious, and helps her get back on her feet. Gradually, an incandescent bond develops between the pastor’s son and the sex worker. When Joseph’s father opens an evangelical church directly across from the brothel where Marie Madeleine lives, a moral battle erupts in the neighbourhood, putting their relationship to the test. Screened at Cannes Première, this new film by Gessica Généus, winner of the Best Film Award at CINEMANIA for Freda (2021), is an intoxicating work infused with surrealist flourishes. The filmmaker herself takes on the title role, while Haiti comes alive to the rhythms of music and poetry.
