At a small-town middle school in Alberta, nobody can tell if new kid Robin is a boy or a girl. It’s not long before the youngster is in the crosshairs of Carter, a teenaged bully with whom Robin will forge a complex bond. Trevor Anderson’s first feature is a sensitive, nostalgic coming-of-age tale that explores a non-binary kid’s search for identity and the self-revelation that comes with discovering new surroundings. With its New Wave soundtrack, offbeat humour and delicious use of camcorder footage, BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND is a vibrant tribute to the 80s and the unique vision of Prairie cinema. (FNC)
