Join us for our Closing Night on June 7 at Cinéma Moderne!
Two films, two perspectives—one looking back, the other moving forward—both searching for meaning in the spaces between people and places. A perfect close to this cinematic experience.
Our Closing Program’s lineup:
Paris to Pyongyang (2024, Helen Lee, 32 min) is a mesmerizing film essay weaving together two narratives: the 1958 visit of French artists and intellectuals to North Korea—whose reflections produced works like Moranbong—and the filmmaker’s mother, Jung-Sook Lee, recounting her family’s separation during the Korean War. A poignant meditation on history, art, and the echoes of war across generations.
A Traveler’s Needs (2024, Hong Sangsoo, 90 min) follows a wandering French woman in Korea who, after losing her income, turns to makgeolli and teaching French to two Korean students. With Hong’s signature wit and quiet observation, the film explores fleeting encounters, cultural displacement, and the small, unexpected moments that shape our paths.
Please note that donations are optional and do not replace the purchase of a ticket—entry will only be granted to attendees with a valid ticket.
