Bridging cultures and defying borders, this program spotlights bold Asian Canadian fiction films that explore hybrid identities, diasporic narratives, and the fluidity of belonging. A reimagined evolution of the AmérAsia legacy, this category is “Where East Meets West”.
Our film lineup:
I Worry About My Teeth (Yolanda Chow, 2024, 5 min)
A 9-to-5 satire, I Worry About My Teeth follows passive office worker Shona, whose monotonous routine takes a turn when one morning she notices something unsettling about her teeth.
Mongrels (Jerome Yoo, 2024, 111 min)
Set in the 1990s, Mongrels is a portrait of an immigrant Korean family that is hired to rid their small Canadian prairie town of a feral dog infestation. Underneath it is a story of a broken, and dysfunctional family trying to find their way in a new world. The narrative is told in three chapters, through the perspectives of Sonny (the father), Ha-Joon (the son), and Hana (the daughter).
