CINEMANIA: Julián

Julián spends the summer in Brooklyn with a grandmother he barely knows. Inside her treasure-filled apartment, surrounded by the Caribbean community he belongs to, the young boy gradually discovers a world he never knew existed, as well as an unexpected part of himself: Julián dreams of becoming a mermaid. Adapted from Jessica Love’s beautiful children’s picture book of the same name, Louise Bagnall’s feature debut (Late Afternoon) gently celebrates imagination, intergenerational connection, and the freedom to be oneself. Brought to life by the distinctive artistry of Cartoon Saloon and co-produced in Luxembourg by Mélusine Productions, Julián unfolds in a vibrant, colourful world where intimacy and wonder meet.
