The SATELLITES Festival, presented by PUBLICS & CIE in partnership with the COMETT FILM FESTIVAL, is Montreal’s first festival dedicated to digital works: short films, immersive works, podcasts, and multidisciplinary digital art. SATELLITES’ mission lies at the intersection of artistic presentation and digital culture. For its inaugural edition, the SATELLITES Festival presents a program dedicated to young audiences, featuring two programs of French-language short films.

 
Program #2 explores more mature themes than the previous one. It also stands out for its experimental approach, pushing the cinematic medium to see just how far it can go. The programme touches on romantic breakups, police violence, as well as tragicomic portraits of women.

SOIXANTE-SEPT MILLISECONDES | 15′ | 2024 | FR | Fleuryfontaine | Experimental
Searching for a projectile whose path was captured by surveillance camera footage, bearing witness to a serious incident, the film follows its trajectory and those of its protagonists. At the heart of a reconstruction combining CGI with the history of moving images, Soixante-sept millisecondes questions the legitimacy of law enforcement in France and raises the alarm about its abuses.

A newly minted mother and filmmaker stages her desire to return to her artistic practice. Exhausted by a long postpartum period and terrified of quietly dying between two loads of laundry, she clings to her camera, searching for cinematic material in her own home. As she pieces the scenes together, she finds herself caught up in her own game, rediscovering the joy of invention and transforming her reality into something sublime. The film celebrates the power of time passing, both in life and in the creative process.
