Based on material from popular sports manga author Ikki Kajiwara, A TALE OF SORROW AND SADNESS follows the life of a young model who skyrockets to fame as a pro golfer after a sports magazine editor obtains the rights to her likeness. However, her newfound fame takes a dark turn when an obsessive fan starts to blackmail her. From the deranged mind of Seijun Suzuki (TOKYO DRIFTER, GATE OF FLESH), this was his triumphant comeback to the Japanese film industry a decade after being exiled for the unorthodoxy of BRANDED TO KILL. Like many of Suzuki’s films, A TALE OF SORROW AND SADNESS is as bizarre as it is eye-catching.
