“When I die, I’ll make films in Hell.” Doris Wishman

cELLEuloid is very excited to screen a new AGFA (American Genre Film Archive) restoration of NUDE ON THE MOON (1961) from the ‘Queen of Exploitation’ Doris Wishman!

Wishman was a self-taught filmmaker, who wrote, produced, directed, cast and edited most of her own films. She started her career by capitalizing on a loophole in obscenity laws which allowed for nudity in the context of documenting the ‘nudist lifestyle’ and made several on these ‘nudie cutie’ films. She made her mark by adding actual plots to films that were usually just naked romping. Nude on the Moon was her 2nd film and hoped to blend the ‘nudie cutie’ fad with the sci-fi fad. Unfortunately, it was banned in several states because the law didn’t allow for sci-fi nudism.

The ‘plot’ involves a millionaire who self-funds an expedition to an inexplicably lush moon, only to discover it is full of attractive humanoid-aliens, who apparently have an aversion to tops. It’s so nonsensical that it becomes absolutely captivating. Fans of B-movies, camp, exploitation and sci-fi and won’t want to miss this deep cut of weird cinema at its best, from the ‘female Ed Wood’.
