Giovanni, Francesco, and Salvatore are today in their eighties. They immigrated to Montreal during the post-Second World War years, leaving behind an agrarian and impoverished Southern Italy. In Montreal they were among the founders of local chapters of the Italian Communist Party, the Italian Socialist Party, as well as labour organisations such as the Inca-CIGL. They also militated in Canadian leftist labour unions and political parties such as the CSN and the NPD. Through images, personal documents and archives they tell us the history of their migration, of the harsh conditions reserved to Italian immigrant workers, and of their political engagements. At the same time, the film throws a tender gaze on their present engagements as retired militants, and on the concerns they express with regard to their children, to the new generations, and to the future of the local Italian-Canadian community.
